THE START OF YOUR PILOT LIFE

Private Pilot is often the first Certificate in your pilot career. The FAA requires the following items:

  • min of 40 hours of flight time including:

    • min of 20 hours dual instruction including:

      • 3 hours cross country training

      • 3 hours of night training including:

        • One night cross country flight of at least 100 nm

        • 10 take offs and full stop landings

      • 3 hours of instrument training

      • 3 hours of practical test preparation within 60 days before the practical test (aka checkride)

    • min of 10 hours solo including:

      • a 150 mile cross country flight with landings at 3 airports and one of the legs >50 nm

      • 3 take offs and landings at an airport with an operating control tower

      • 5 hours of solo cross country
